It has been a magnificent autumn for Czech teenager Nicole Vaidisova. Still in the springtime
of her career, she has stormed up the rankings to number 17. Having already captured the
Korea and Japan Open titles, the 16-year-old completed a hat-trick of titles in Asia when
she defeated top seed Nadia Petrova in the final of the Thailand Open.
A student of the Nick Bollettieri Academy, she entered the WTA tour in 2004 when she was just
14 years old. She reached her first WTA Tour quarter-final before her 15th birthday and raced
into the top 100 by the end of the year. In April 2005, she recorded her first win over a top
10 player, upsetting the reigning French Open champion Anastasia Myskina on clay in the Family
Circle Cup.
She started playing at the age of six at her local club in Nurnberg. Her game was developed
at the Nick Bolletieri Academy in Florida and she won the Orange Bowl in 2003. Already a six-footer,
it is hardly surprising that Vaidisova lists her serve as her biggest weapon.
Her interests include NHL (ice hockey), reading, going to the movies, yoga, cycling
and listening to pop music.
